Pets Helping People
The Pets Helping People
fund was established by Geoff Leder and Shellie Alderson because they
believe the impact animals have on individuals’ lives is tremendous.
Having two pets of their own, Geoff and Shellie wanted
to begin their philanthropic project supporting those organizations
that see the importance of this interaction.
Interaction with loving, attentive
pets can enrich the quality of life for people of all ages, especially
those with special needs. “Geoff and I really love animals
and we have seen how important they can be to a family,” said
Shellie. “We are interested in several types of services,
including organizations that train animals to visit nursing homes/hospitals,
police dogs that may need bullet proof vests, or just funding for small
gifts/cards that would be sent to individuals when they lose a pet.”
The Pets Helping People fund, still
in its infancy, began in 2002 with the idea to support great organizations
that focus on enriching the lives of others through animals.
