Helping Victims of the Haiti Earthquake

The recent devastation caused by the earthquake in Haiti has many asking how to help. At this point in time the best way to help the people of Haiti is to make a monetary donation to one of the organizations who are experienced in disaster relief and have a presence in the country.Among the many agencies providing disaster relief include American Red Cross, Beyond Borders, The Salvation Army, United Nations Central Emergency Relief Fund, CARE, Catholic Relief Services and  UNICEF.

As always, if you are interested in giving to a specific, lesser known agency and would like to ensure its legitimancy, please contact the Foundation's office at 874-5450.

Event to Fund Scholarships for Non-Traditional Students
Wine and food pairing stations, live and silent auctions, music and shopping will highlight a special event on Friday, February 12, 2010 to raise funds for a scholarship that helps non-traditional students who demonstrate commitment and desire to better themselves through additional training or education.

The “VIP Preview Event for the Second Annual Unique Boutiques,” to benefit the LIFT Scholarship Fund, will be held from 6 – 10 p.m. at the Oscar Event Center above Jungle Jim’s International Market in Fairfield, OH.
“Unique Boutiques...The Ultimate in Chic Shopping” is presented by West Chester ’s “Designs by Paolo and features a variety of artists, designers and specialty boutique owners from all over, who showcase their distinctive product lines at these type of events.
Non-traditional students from throughout the area have benefited for three years from a scholarship called Leading Individuals for Tomorrow (LIFT) Scholarship Fund.  The fund of the Community Foundation of West Chester/Liberty, LIFT was started by the graduates of the West Chester Chamber Alliance’s Leadership 21 class of 2005.
“One of the most important aspects of this unique scholarship is the focus on individual’s barriers, rather than only achievements,” said George Lang, one of the founding members of the LIFT fund. “Many individuals have a commitment and desire to further their education, but due to a variety of circumstances in their lives, they may not receive traditional scholarships based only upon merit or pubic service.”
Non-traditional students include students of any age located anywhere in the greater West Chester area. Up to $5,000 is awarded annually to individuals from LIFT to be used for tuition, fees, books, daycare, travel, or other resources necessary to pursue additional training or education.  The main goal of LIFT is to support as many individuals as possible and help them reach their fullest potential.
Tickets for the February 12 event are $85 per person and can be obtained from the Community Foundation of West Chester/Liberty at the following link online:http://www.wclfoundation.com/LiftScholarship.asp or by calling (513) 874-5450.
